Conversations With Cupid
I have trouble saying it.
I toss it around too carefully,
paying too much mind to the field of distance
between ‘you’ and ‘ya’.The welcome addition of ‘lots’ to help
build tiny walls between each word.
The difference between breathing it
directly into a mouth
or with a thumb poised over the disconnect.
What it means to say it squarely
or cast over an already-turning shoulder.
I type it out on my phone and stare at it,
wondering if I mean it.
I press send.
It flies away from me.
